As Nigerians join the rest of the world to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uche Ogah, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes, describing them as the true guardians of Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty.

In a solemn message released on Thursday, Ogah said the day is not just a ceremonial observance but a moment of deep national reflection on the immense sacrifices made by men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces who laid down their lives so the country could remain one.

According to him, every freedom Nigerians enjoy today is rooted in the blood, sweat and courage of soldiers who chose duty over comfort and patriotism over personal safety. He noted that their bravery should continue to inspire leaders and citizens alike to put the nation above personal interests.

Ogah stressed that remembrance must go beyond words, urging governments at all levels to prioritize the welfare of serving officers, veterans and the families of fallen soldiers. He said no nation that truly values its future neglects those who defended its past.

The Abia-born industrialist also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking steps to strengthen national security and support the armed forces, noting that sustained investment in personnel welfare, training and equipment remains critical in the fight against insecurity.

He called on Nigerians to remain united, patriotic and law abiding, adding that peace and national cohesion remain the greatest tribute that can be paid to fallen heroes.

Ogah concluded by offering prayers for the repose of the souls of departed soldiers and for divine protection over those currently risking their lives to defend the nation, saying their sacrifices must never be forgotten.
