Fubara Reassures Investors as Rivers Hosts Incident-Free 2026 Port Harcourt Polo Finale

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated that the state remains safe, peaceful, and attractive for investors, tourists, and international events, despite what he described as misleading security narratives circulating on social media.

The Governor made the assertion on Saturday, January 17, 2026, during the grand finale of the 2026 Port Harcourt International Polo Tournament, noting that the successful, hitch-free hosting of the week-long competition reflects the stable security situation in the state.

According to him, the absence of any security incident throughout the tournament highlights his administration’s firm commitment to protecting lives and property across Rivers State.

Governor Fubara explained that his attendance at the event was also to honour the memory of his late brother, Architect Roland Cookey-Gam, whose family was present, and to encourage the leadership and members of the Port Harcourt Polo Club.

While acknowledging the current political distractions within the state, the Governor stressed that such challenges would not derail his government’s focus on governance and service delivery.

He assured stakeholders of continuous government support to strengthen the Port Harcourt Polo Club and enhance its global relevance as a hub for sports and tourism.

Governor Fubara further encouraged visiting players, officials, and guests to share positive experiences of Rivers State, reaffirming that ensuring security remains the top priority of his administration.

Earlier, the President of the Port Harcourt Polo Club, Mr. Henry Prince Agbodjan, praised the Governor for attending the grand finale, describing the smooth conduct of the tournament as further proof of the state’s safety.

Agbodjan also revealed that the tournament marked the 20th anniversary of the passing of Architect Roland Cookey-Gam, who died in a plane crash, adding a commemorative significance to the sporting event.

The event climaxed with the presentation of trophies to winning teams and outstanding participants at the tournament.
