Lagos Legislature Demands Immediate Action to Free Kidnapped NYSC Participant

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have called for swift action from security agencies and government authorities to secure the release of a Prospective Corps Member, Miss Lateefah Binuyo, who was reportedly abducted in Kogi State while travelling to her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posting.

The call for intervention came during a special session of the Assembly, where lawmakers expressed deep concern over the incident, which occurred on January 22, 2026 along the Kogi route as Binuyo was en route to the orientation camp in Taraba State. They revealed that kidnappers have demanded a ransom of ₦30 million for her release.

Hon. Omolara Olumegbon, who raised the matter as one of urgent public importance, urged the House to reach out to federal authorities and collaborate with the Kogi State Government in coordinating efforts to rescue Binuyo safely.

Other legislators emphasised the need for stronger security measures for youths travelling to their deployment states and called on both state and federal governments to work together to protect corps members and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Speaker Mudashiru Obasa described the abduction as deeply troubling and urged continued pressure on security agencies to intensify efforts until the young woman is freed unharmed.
