Peter Obi Signals 2027 Presidential Ambition Amid ADC Campaigning

Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his intention to run in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

Obi made the declaration while campaigning for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate ahead of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Addressing supporters, he emphasized the connection between the local elections and his national political plans. “This coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me,” Obi said. “Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you.”

Since joining the ADC, Obi’s supporters, including members of the Obidient Movement, have intensified calls for him to be adopted as the party’s presidential flagbearer. However, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi has urged restraint, warning against inflammatory rhetoric and stressing the importance of party unity.

Speculation continues about a potential Peter Obi–Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket, following Kwankwaso’s decision not to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Meanwhile, supporters of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar have suggested that Obi could accept a vice-presidential role, similar to 2019 arrangements, but Obi has dismissed such ideas, reaffirming his presidential ambitions.

Urging his supporters to mobilize votes for his preferred candidate in the AMAC poll, Obi described their backing as “crucial” to his political journey. He also reiterated his commitment to serving a single four-year term if elected president.
