Lassa Fever Toll Rises in Plateau as Authorities Step Up Containment Efforts

Plateau State has recorded three additional deaths from the ongoing Lassa fever outbreak, raising concerns among health officials and the public. The new fatalities include a senior doctor who had been treating patients infected with the virus, underlining the risks faced by healthcare workers on the frontlines.

Authorities in the state have intensified efforts to contain the outbreak, deploying emergency response teams to affected areas. These teams are focusing on measures such as patient isolation, disinfection, and monitoring suspected cases in hospitals and local communities.

Public health officials have also stepped up contact tracing to identify people who may have been exposed to the virus. Residents are being urged to report any symptoms early and seek prompt medical attention to reduce the risk of severe illness or death.

In addition to surveillance and treatment, health authorities are conducting awareness campaigns to educate communities about hygiene practices, rodent control, and safe food handling, all of which are critical in preventing the spread of Lassa fever.

Despite these measures, the outbreak continues to challenge the healthcare system, highlighting the urgent need for resources, protective equipment, and public cooperation. State officials remain committed to controlling the situation and minimizing further casualties as they work with healthcare workers and communities.
