MTN Set to Take Full Ownership of IHS Towers in Multi-Billion Dollar Move

MTN Group is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire the remaining stake in IHS Towers, a major independent owner of mobile tower infrastructure. A successful deal would give MTN full control of the company, strengthening its hold on critical network assets.

The potential transaction is valued at approximately $2.76 billion, though no binding agreement has been finalized and the outcome of the talks remains uncertain.

MTN initially sold many of its tower assets to IHS in previous years and has since leased them back for use in its mobile networks across Africa. A complete takeover would signal a strategic shift toward outright ownership of key infrastructure.

The discussions reflect a broader industry trend of telecom companies seeking greater control over the networks that support mobile connectivity. MTN has also indicated it may explore alternative strategies to optimise its investment if the full acquisition does not materialize.
