Rivers Governor Reshuffles Executive Team, Legislature Awaits New Nominees

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has dismissed all current commissioners and special advisers as part of a major cabinet overhaul. The governor has directed that permanent secretaries or the most senior officials in each ministry take over day-to-day operations until a new team is confirmed.

In the shake-up, Onwuka Nzeshi has been named the new Chief Press Secretary, replacing Nelson Chukwudi, who has been relieved of his duties. The reasons for the changes have not been publicly detailed.

The move comes amid efforts to smooth political tensions within the state and follows recent negotiations between the governor and his former political ally, Nyesom Wike.

The Rivers State House of Assembly is expected to review and confirm a fresh list of commissioner nominees submitted by the governor. Analysts anticipate the new appointments will include strategic political allies and some former officials returning to the cabinet.

The overhaul signals a decisive reset in the state’s executive leadership as the government prepares for a new phase of governance and administration.
