The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has published the candidates who will be eligible to contest the August 8, 2026 governorship election, but several major political parties are not on the list.

INEC announced that 14 political parties successfully completed their primaries and submitted the names and details of their gubernatorial candidates and running mates within the official deadline. These parties met the legal requirements for participation and had their information uploaded to the electoral body’s system on time.

However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) — two of Nigeria’s most prominent opposition parties — were not included among those cleared. This is because they failed to properly submit their candidate details before the deadline, according to INEC’s statement.

INEC has advised political parties, candidates, and the public to inspect the published candidate documents at its offices across Osun State. Only the parties that complied with the rules will take part in the upcoming election.

The governorship election in Osun is scheduled for August 8, 2026.
