Hundreds of vulnerable residents in Kano, including street beggars and less privileged families, received bags of rice on Saturday courtesy of the Aliko Dangote Foundation. The initiative is aimed at easing economic hardship and supporting those in need during the Ramadan fasting period.

The distribution, which involved 10kg bags of rice, was coordinated by a Kano state government delegation led by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Faruq Ibrahim. Key state officials and representatives from non-governmental organizations accompanied the team to major streets and neighborhoods to ensure the palliatives reached those most in need.

The exercise, carried out under strict security and media supervision to maintain order, covered communities across Gwale, Nassarawa, Fagge, and Municipal local government areas.

Some beneficiaries, including individuals who had to leave commercial buses and tricycles to receive the aid, expressed overwhelming joy and gratitude. Many praised the Kano state government for a well-organized distribution, noting that this approach ensured the food items reached vulnerable residents directly, rather than being diverted by politicians as in previous years.

Speaking to journalists during the distribution, Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mamoud, assured that the poorest and most vulnerable residents would benefit from the palliatives. He stated that the distribution began immediately after a flag-off ceremony at the Government House and emphasized that the process was carefully managed to reach communities across the state.

The initiative underscores the combined efforts of the Kano state government and Aliko Dangote Foundation to support residents during Ramadan and alleviate the challenges of the fasting season.
