Nigeria’s Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has declared that the anger of opposition parties over new legislation is actually a positive indicator of the Senate’s work. Speaking at a public event in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio emphasized that strong reactions from critics show the laws are impactful and challenge entrenched interests.

He stated that when opposition politicians express disapproval, it confirms that the legislation is addressing important issues and pushing the country forward. According to Akpabio, lawmakers should not fear criticism but view it as a sign of meaningful progress in governance.

At the event, held in honor of the First Lady, Akpabio dismissed suggestions from some political commentators about potential election boycotts. He argued that such threats reflect discomfort with change rather than genuine political discourse.

Akpabio concluded by encouraging lawmakers to continue pursuing bold legislation, saying that public scrutiny and debate are essential components of a healthy democracy. He reiterated that opposition criticism should not deter the Senate from acting decisively in the nation’s interest.
