Dental Technologists Push Back Against National Assembly’s Proposed Bill

Members of the dental technologists’ professional body in Nigeria have voiced strong opposition to a draft amendment bill currently moving through the National Assembly, describing it as harmful to their profession’s independence and practice.

The group argued that the proposed legislative changes could weaken the regulatory authority and autonomy of dental technologists, potentially shifting oversight in a way that undermines established professional standards. They have formally called on lawmakers to suspend the bill’s progression until their concerns are addressed.

In their statement, the association emphasised the importance of protecting the scope of practice for dental technologists and ensuring that any law affecting their work is developed with full input from stakeholders. They warned that moving forward without consensus could disrupt service delivery and erode public confidence in dental care services.

Their protest reflects broader tensions among healthcare professional groups and legislators over how regulatory frameworks for health occupations should be structured and amended.
