Ex‑Governor Rejects Claims Linking Wife to Controversial Demolition in Enugu

Former Governor Jim Nwobodo has come out strongly against allegations that his wife played a role in the recent demolition of a building in Enugu, saying the accusation is unfounded and unrelated to her.

The dispute began after Pastor Basil Ogbuanu claimed that Mrs. Pat Nwobodo ordered the destruction of his property under construction at Patson Estate, Independence Layout. Nwobodo said the issue actually stems from unauthorised construction and violations of estate rules by the pastor, not any action taken by his wife.

According to the former governor, the tension first flared on January 16, when Mrs. Nwobodo visited the site with a landscape architect and a police orderly for what was meant to be a routine walk‑through. He said the team was blocked inside the estate and that a police officer with them was assaulted before additional officers were called in.

Nwobodo also explained that Ogbuanu was stopped by police at the airport while trying to travel abroad and later charged with illegal building and other offences. He expressed disappointment that his wife was singled out in the controversy, insisting she acted in good faith amid the dispute.
