A political coalition has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to nominate a presidential candidate from Southern Nigeria for the 2027 general elections. The recommendation came during a joint National Executive Council meeting and strategy session held in Abuja.

In a statement released after the gathering, the coalition emphasized that selecting a Southern candidate would help the party build a more inclusive, nationally accepted platform capable of winning broad support. The group highlighted Nigeria’s established practice of rotating leadership between the North and South as a key factor for political stability.

The coalition also noted that zoning the ticket to the South would boost the party’s ability to mobilize voters across critical regions. They stressed that a credible political platform must prioritize equity, fairness, and inclusion in leadership decisions.

Beyond the zoning recommendation, the coalition encouraged the ADC to focus on a unifying national agenda that promotes shared values such as justice, fairness, and unity. Internal party reforms were also highlighted as essential for strengthening organizational structures and ensuring effective governance.

The coalition concluded by calling for stronger cooperation among opposition parties to offer Nigerians a competent, credible, and inclusive alternative to the current leadership.
