Lawyer Raises Alarm Over Alleged Covert Relocation of Suit Against Soludo

A legal practitioner has expressed concern over what he describes as a discreet transfer of a fundamental rights case involving Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, warning that the move could undermine transparency in the judicial process.

The lawyer, Ikechukwu Obasi who is pursuing the case on behalf of affected traders, questioned why the matter was reportedly moved without public notice or clear explanation. He argued that such actions risk eroding confidence in the justice system, especially in cases that touch on citizens’ constitutional rights.

The suit challenges actions taken by the Anambra State government, particularly the closure of markets in Onitsha over compliance with sit-at-home directives. According to the claimant, these enforcement measures violated several fundamental rights, including freedom of movement, association, and the ability to earn a livelihood.

The legal action also alleges that security operatives were deployed to enforce the shutdown, leading to arrests, intimidation, and economic hardship for traders. The plaintiff maintains that participation in such protests is a legitimate form of expression protected under the law.

Reacting to the reported transfer of the case, the lawyer stressed the importance of openness in judicial proceedings, noting that any perception of secrecy could weaken public trust. He called on relevant authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the relocation and ensure that due process is upheld.
