More than 500 civil society organisations and human rights advocates have voiced strong condemnation over reports of sexual violence against women during a recent cultural festival in Delta State. The groups described the alleged incidents as disturbing and unacceptable, calling for urgent intervention by authorities.

In a joint reaction, the organisations expressed concern over the safety of women at public events, stressing that such gatherings should not become environments where abuse thrives. They urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the claims and ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable.

The coalition also highlighted the need for better planning and security arrangements at large-scale events, noting that prevention measures must be strengthened to protect attendees, particularly women and vulnerable groups.

They further called on the government and relevant stakeholders to implement stricter safeguards, promote awareness, and reinforce laws aimed at tackling sexual violence. According to them, addressing the issue decisively is essential to restoring public confidence and ensuring that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
