Lawyer Demands Total Ban on Ozoro Festival After Outrage Over Abuse of Women

A Nigerian lawyer has urged authorities to suspend a traditional festival in Ozoro, Delta State, following public outrage over alleged assaults on women during the event.

He maintained that cultural practices should not be used to justify violence, insisting that any festival associated with such acts must be halted. According to him, mere condemnation without concrete action would amount to empty rhetoric.

The demand follows reports and circulating videos showing women being harassed in public during the celebration, sparking anger among citizens and civil society groups. Many have described the incidents as a serious breach of human rights and called for accountability.

The lawyer also appealed to the Delta State Government and security agencies to ensure that those involved are brought to justice, while emphasizing the need to reassess how such events are organized to prevent future occurrences.
