Two pilots have died and dozens of passengers were injured after an Air Canada aircraft collided with a fire truck on the runway at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Sunday night, triggering major travel disruptions.

The aircraft, which had arrived from Montreal with 76 passengers on board, struck a Port Authority fire truck that was responding to an emergency involving another plane. Dramatic footage circulating online shows the moment of impact.

Authorities confirmed that both the pilot and co-pilot were killed in the crash. About 40 passengers and crew members were taken to nearby hospitals, some with serious injuries, although most had been discharged by Monday morning.

Reacting to the incident, U.S. President Donald Trump described it as a tragic error, noting the risks involved in aviation.

Meanwhile, in Colombia, a military transport aircraft crashed on Monday in a rural area near Puerto Leguízamo in the southwestern region of Putumayo.

Local media reported that about 110 soldiers were on board the Colombian Air Force Hercules plane, though officials have yet to confirm the exact number. Defence Minister Pedro Sánchez said the crash occurred shortly after takeoff and that rescue teams had been deployed, but details about casualties and the cause remain unclear.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations continue. Although the crash is being treated as an aviation accident, officials noted that other possibilities have not been ruled out.

Videos from the crash site show the aircraft engulfed in flames, with residents assisting injured soldiers. Sounds resembling exploding ammunition could be heard in the footage.

Sánchez expressed condolences to affected families and assured that all emergency protocols had been activated. President Gustavo Petro also reacted, saying he hoped there were no fatalities and stressing the need to modernise the country’s military air fleet.

He added that delays in approving key policy documents had hindered upgrades and warned that officials responsible for the setbacks could face removal.
