The Labour Party has announced a halt to its planned ward, local government, and state elections, as well as its national convention, in order to strengthen participation in its ongoing membership re‑registration drive.

Party officials say the decision was made to give both returning and new members more time to complete their registration, which is seen as a key step toward ensuring broader involvement in internal democratic processes.

In connection with the postponement, the party inaugurated a 46‑member committee tasked with coordinating the rescheduled congresses and the national convention. This group, made up of representatives from different party structures, will be responsible for planning and supervising all activities leading up to the events once a new timetable is set.

Leaders of the party expressed confidence that the delay will allow for better organisation and more credible outcomes, and urged members to take advantage of the extended period to complete their re‑registration.

The Labour Party also assured stakeholders that fresh dates for the postponed activities will be communicated in due course, as it seeks to strengthen internal democracy and unity ahead of broader political engagements.
