The Federal Government has reported a modest improvement in electricity generation, with output on the national grid increasing from 3,951 megawatts to about 4,300 megawatts within a two-week period.
Officials from the Ministry of Power said the gain was recorded between March 28 and April 10, 2026, and reflects ongoing efforts to stabilise supply across the country.
According to the ministry, the improvement is largely linked to better availability of gas for thermal power stations, which serve as the backbone of Nigeria’s electricity production. The increased gas supply helped several generating plants operate more efficiently during the review period.
Authorities noted that although the rise in output is encouraging, it remains part of a gradual recovery process rather than a full resolution of the country’s longstanding power challenges.
They also highlighted that coordination among key stakeholders in the power sector has improved, contributing to better system performance and higher operational capacity at generating plants.
Government officials added that reforms are ongoing to sustain the progress, improve reliability, and ensure more stable electricity delivery to homes and businesses across the country.
