Retired police personnel on Monday staged a protest at the Force Headquarters in the nation’s capital, Abuja, demanding immediate payment of their long-overdue pensions and retirement benefits.

The demonstrators, made up of former officers from different parts of the country, carried placards and chanted solidarity slogans as they expressed frustration over what they described as months of financial hardship caused by delayed entitlements. Some of the retirees said they had repeatedly made appeals to relevant authorities without receiving lasting solutions.

Security around the area was tightened as the protest drew attention within the premises of the Force Headquarters, where operations were temporarily disrupted by the gathering crowd.

The retirees called on the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force and federal authorities to urgently address the backlog of payments, warning that continued delays could worsen their living conditions.

They also urged the government to improve the welfare system for retired security personnel to prevent future unrest linked to pension administration.
