The Nigerian Defence Academy has issued a public alert over a surge of fraudulent activities involving individuals pretending to be its Commandant on various social media platforms.
According to the Academy, scammers have been creating fake profiles across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and X, using the identity of the Commandant to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
These impostors reportedly lure victims with false promises, including the awarding of contracts and other official-looking engagements, in a bid to defraud them.
The NDA described the activities as criminal schemes designed to exploit trust and mislead individuals into losing money and valuable resources.
It stressed that the institution has no affiliation with such accounts and urged the public to ignore any unofficial pages or messages claiming to represent the Commandant.
The Academy further clarified that all official communications are only released through verified channels, including its official website and recognized social media handles, as well as reputable national media outlets.
It also emphasized that the Commandant does not conduct personal or official dealings through unofficial online accounts.
Members of the public were advised to stay alert, avoid engaging with suspicious profiles, and report any fraudulent activity to the appropriate authorities.
