Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reiterated his claim that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is planning to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
Fayose alleged that the move to dethrone the monarch could begin this week, with the state government expected to issue a query against Oba Ladoja. According to him, the action may be based on the monarch’s absence at the recent coronation of High Chiefs in Ibadanland, alongside other allegations.
“I have it on reliable authority that Governor Seyi Makinde is plotting the removal of the Olubadan. The process may start this week with a government query citing his absence at the failed coronation of High Chiefs and other issues,” Fayose stated.
He further claimed that new allegations are being raised against the monarch, including accusations of involvement in a plot to impeach the governor.
Fayose argued that these claims are part of a broader effort to justify actions against the Olubadan. “Those in doubt should watch unfolding events. Initially, any rift between the governor and the Olubadan was denied, but now the monarch is being accused of plotting impeachment and acting in a partisan manner. These are attempts to lay the groundwork for disciplinary action,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, has publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Makinde amid speculations of impeachment moves.
Oyekola disclosed that the Speaker of the House, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, recently met with the Olubadan, during which the monarch allegedly advised him on his political ambitions. He claimed the Speaker was offered support, including a House of Representatives ticket under the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as financial backing, but declined.
The lawmaker also alleged that a similar offer was made through former First Lady of Oyo State, Chief (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, which the Speaker also rejected.
Distancing himself from any alleged plot, Oyekola said he was neither consulted nor involved in any moves capable of destabilising the state.
“I cannot and will not be disloyal to Governor Seyi Makinde. I remain committed to the peace, unity, and progress of Oyo State,” he said.
He added that members of the Oyo State House of Assembly recently met at the Governor’s Office following concerns over attempts by some individuals to create division between the legislature and the executive arm of government.
