Senate President Godswill Akpabio has suggested that the rising insecurity across Nigeria is largely connected to political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing optimism that the situation will improve once the electoral process is over.
Speaking during a public engagement in Abuja, Akpabio argued that the recent increase in violent incidents is being influenced by individuals seeking to weaken the administration of Bola Tinubu. He maintained that the unrest is part of a broader strategy to create public dissatisfaction and erode confidence in the government.
He further noted that such patterns are often temporary and politically motivated, predicting that the country would experience a noticeable decline in insecurity shortly after the elections are concluded. According to him, the tension reflects intensified political rivalry rather than a lasting breakdown of security.
Akpabio also highlighted what he described as expanding political backing for the current administration, stating that alliances and support networks are growing stronger as the next election cycle approaches.
He called on Nigerians to remain calm and hopeful, assuring that efforts are ongoing to address security challenges while the political season unfolds.
