The Lagos State Government has launched a capacity-building programme aimed at helping retired public servants transition into self-reliant livelihoods through training in farming and renewable energy solutions.
The initiative, organised under the state’s public service welfare scheme, exposed participants to practical agricultural techniques as well as biogas production methods designed to promote income generation and sustainable living after retirement.
Officials explained that the programme is part of ongoing efforts to reduce post-retirement financial hardship by equipping retirees with hands-on skills that can be converted into small and medium-scale enterprises.
Beneficiaries were trained in areas such as crop cultivation, livestock management, and environmentally friendly energy production, including biogas systems that can be used for cooking and other domestic needs.
The government noted that the intervention reflects its broader commitment to inclusive development, adding that retirees remain valuable members of society who can still contribute meaningfully to economic growth when properly supported.
Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, especially in helping them explore new income opportunities beyond active service.
