The White House has rejected claims that the United States has requested a ceasefire in the ongoing tensions involving Iran, clarifying that no such move has been made while diplomatic engagements are still in progress.
Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that discussions with Iranian representatives are ongoing and far from concluded. She dismissed circulating reports suggesting any formal agreement, emphasizing that no official decision has been announced.
“These discussions are ongoing, and nothing is official until you hear it directly from the White House,” Leavitt said.
While describing the talks as “productive,” she noted that details about potential future meetings are still being considered and have not been finalized.
Some reports had suggested a possible second round of talks, potentially involving regional diplomatic channels, with Pakistan mentioned as a possible host or mediator. However, the White House declined to confirm any specific venue.
The update comes as diplomatic efforts continue to focus on easing tensions and exploring pathways toward de-escalation. U.S. officials maintain that dialogue remains the preferred approach, despite uncertainties surrounding the next phase of negotiations.
