APC Stakeholders in Akwa Ibom Split Over Move to Adopt Consensus Candidate for Assembly Seat

Tensions have emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State as key party stakeholders disagreed over attempts to select a consensus candidate for a State House of Assembly position.

A section of party leaders reportedly opposed the arrangement, insisting that the process should not be predetermined but should allow open competition among aspirants.

The disagreement reflects ongoing internal divisions within the party in the state, where rival blocs have frequently clashed over candidate selection methods and leadership decisions.

While some stakeholders argue that consensus would help reduce costly internal contests and promote unity, others maintain that it undermines fairness and the democratic rights of members seeking to contest.

The dispute is expected to shape the party’s preparations ahead of upcoming elections, as efforts continue to resolve differences and maintain cohesion within its ranks.
