INEC Revises Osun Poll Schedule, Sets New Deadline for Campaign Activities

Nigeria’s electoral body has announced changes to the timetable for the upcoming Osun State governorship election, introducing a new deadline for political campaigns following an earlier shift in the election date.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said the adjustment became necessary after the poll was moved by one week—from August 8 to August 15, 2026—as part of updates to the broader electoral schedule.

With the revised date in place, political parties are now required to conclude all campaign activities by midnight on August 13, 2026. The commission explained that this aligns with electoral regulations mandating a 24-hour halt to campaigns before voting begins.

INEC urged parties, candidates, and other stakeholders to comply strictly with the updated timeline, stressing that adherence is essential for a smooth and credible electoral process.

The commission also reiterated its commitment to delivering a transparent, inclusive, and fair election in the state, assuring voters that preparations remain on track despite the changes.
