Key opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Senate President David Mark, ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, have converged on Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, for a national summit of opposition leaders.

Other notable attendees include former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, Senators Victor Umeh and Rabiu Kwankwaso, Prof. Jerry Gana, and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, among others.

The summit, hosted by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), aims to strengthen collaboration among opposition parties ahead of future elections.

Discussions at the gathering are centered on building a united front, with Atiku reportedly among those considering a presidential bid under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 general election.

In his address, Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy, urging political stakeholders to work together to promote and sustain democratic values.
