Kano, Nigeria – The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state following a plenary session held on Monday.
Garo’s confirmation came after a screening exercise conducted by an ad hoc committee chaired by Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello. The committee reviewed his credentials and presented its report to the House, paving the way for his approval.
He replaces former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who recently stepped down from office.
Lawmakers said the process followed constitutional provisions, specifically Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which outlines how vacancies in the office of a deputy governor should be filled.
During the screening, Garo answered questions on his academic background, professional experience, and plans to support governance in the state. The committee noted that he showed a solid understanding of public administration and outlined clear strategies to assist Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in delivering on his development agenda.
Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore presided over the session, where the Assembly unanimously approved the nomination through a voice vote. The House also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the executive to ensure accountability and drive sustainable development in the state.
