Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who served as a vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has formally ended his association with the Labour Party.
He made the announcement during a televised political discussion, confirming that he has now aligned himself with the Peoples Redemption Party. The move, according to him, takes immediate effect.
Baba-Ahmed said his decision followed increasing disagreements within the Labour Party, which he believes has moved away from its original ideals. He pointed to internal disputes and external pressures as factors that weakened the party’s unity.
He also criticized the current state of opposition politics in the country, arguing that attention should be on addressing national issues rather than internal political struggles.
Explaining his new direction, he described the PRP as a party with a strong historical background and said he is ready to contribute to its rebuilding efforts as the country gradually looks toward the next election cycle.
His departure marks another notable realignment in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
