The Niger State Government has intensified efforts to identify and nurture emerging athletes by strengthening grassroots sports development across communities in the state.
Through the state sports authorities, a renewed focus has been placed on creating structured pathways that allow young people with sporting potential to be discovered early and guided into professional development programmes.
Officials say the initiative is aimed at building a steady pipeline of athletes who can represent the state at regional, national, and international competitions, while also promoting healthy youth engagement through sports.
The sports commission noted that expanding grassroots structures will help bring organised sporting activities closer to local communities, giving more young people access to training, coaching, and competitive exposure.
They added that the plan is also designed to improve talent identification systems and ensure that promising athletes are not overlooked due to lack of access or opportunity.
Authorities believe the renewed commitment will strengthen Niger State’s presence in national sports and contribute to long-term youth development through structured sporting engagement.
