Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has clarified the reason behind his recent meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan as political discussions around the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.

Obi stated that the visit was part of wider consultations with key national figures aimed at addressing the country’s challenges and exploring possible paths ahead of the next general election.

The meeting, which took place behind closed doors in Abuja, also included some South-East political leaders. Obi explained that the engagement focused on national issues and ongoing conversations about Nigeria’s future direction.

He noted that such consultations are necessary as stakeholders across different regions continue to deliberate on how to improve governance and strengthen democratic processes ahead of 2027.

The discussion has sparked political interest because both Obi and Jonathan remain influential figures in national politics, with speculation continuing over possible alliances and realignments before the next election cycle.
