Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has stirred political debate after alleging that the ruling All Progressives Congress may struggle to secure victory in parts of Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 presidential election without electoral manipulation.
Adeyanju reportedly made the statement after a recent visit to Sokoto State, where he claimed that public sentiment appeared unfavourable toward the APC despite support for the state governor. According to him, the political mood in the North suggests growing dissatisfaction among many voters over the current state of the nation.
In a post shared on social media, the activist argued that while some APC governors may still retain popularity in their respective states, the party could face serious resistance during the presidential election. His remarks quickly generated reactions from supporters and critics across political circles.
The comments also reignited conversations surrounding the opposition coalition being formed ahead of 2027, particularly the growing alliance involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Political observers believe the coalition could reshape the political landscape in Northern Nigeria if it gains wider acceptance among voters.
However, Adeyanju has also maintained controversial positions regarding opposition politics, previously arguing that only a strong Northern candidate may effectively challenge President Bola Tinubu and the APC structure in 2027.
Since the comments surfaced online, Nigerians on social media have remained divided, with some agreeing that economic hardship and insecurity may influence voting patterns in the North, while others dismissed the remarks as political speculation ahead of the next election cycle.
