Senator Sharafadeen Alli has successfully passed the screening process of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, further boosting his chances of emerging as the party’s flagbearer.
Alli, who currently represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, reportedly appeared before the APC National Screening Committee in Abuja where he was cleared to participate in the race for the party’s gubernatorial ticket.
The development is said to have strengthened the growing momentum around his aspiration, especially following endorsements and support from several APC stakeholders and political figures across Oyo State. Political observers believe the successful screening has positioned the senator as one of the leading contenders within the party ahead of the primaries.
Reports also indicate that former members of the National Assembly from Oyo State, particularly those within the APC, have openly aligned themselves with Alli’s governorship ambition, describing him as an experienced administrator and seasoned politician capable of leading the state.
Senator Alli has previously served in several strategic positions including Secretary to the Oyo State Government and Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company before his election into the Senate.
His emergence as a strong governorship aspirant comes amid increasing political activities within the Oyo APC as the party intensifies preparations to challenge the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the 2027 governorship election.
Supporters of the senator argue that his administrative experience, political structure, and relationship with party stakeholders could give the APC a stronger footing in the battle to reclaim power in Oyo State.
