Today marks a significant milestone in our democratic journey. It is a celebration of political maturity, party discipline, unity of purpose, and collective responsibility. Our great party, under the visionary leadership and guidance of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has once again demonstrated that democracy flourishes where consultation, consensus, and mutual respect prevail.
The Labour Party has embraced the path of consensus, not out of political convenience, but because we recognize it as the most effective and unifying mechanism for presenting our strongest candidates to the electorate. Consensus remains one of the legitimate democratic options recognized by both our party constitution and the Electoral Act. It is a process through which party members, leaders, stakeholders, and aspirants collectively identify and endorse individuals best positioned to advance the aspirations of our people and carry the party’s banner into the general election.
What we have witnessed today is therefore not merely a political exercise; it is the culmination of extensive consultations, meaningful engagements, and broad-based acceptance across our party structure. The good people of Abia North Senatorial District were not asked to choose strangers. Rather, they were invited to affirm candidates who emerged through a transparent process built on trust, credibility, competence, and widespread support.
I am profoundly humbled by the confidence reposed in me by the leadership of our party, our esteemed stakeholders, and the resilient people of Abia North Senatorial District. I accept this affirmation with a deep sense of gratitude and responsibility. I do not regard today’s outcome as a personal victory. Instead, I see it as a solemn mandate and a call to greater service.
It is a responsibility to justify the trust that has been placed in me. It is a responsibility to provide purposeful, effective, and people-oriented representation. It is a responsibility to champion policies and initiatives that will uplift our communities, empower our youth, create opportunities for our women, and accelerate the socio-economic development of every part of Abia North. Above all, it is a responsibility to support and complement the transformational vision of His Excellency, Governor Alex Chioma Otti.
I wish to particularly commend our Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, for his exemplary statesmanship, remarkable wisdom, and steadfast leadership throughout this process. At a time when many political parties across the nation are grappling with internal crises, factional disputes, and protracted litigations, the Labour Party in Abia State continues to stand as a shining example of unity, stability, discipline, and purposeful leadership.
The seamless conduct of this exercise is a testament to the strength of our internal democratic culture and the unwavering commitment of our members to the ideals upon which our party is founded. It reflects our collective determination to place the interests of the people above personal ambitions and to build a political movement anchored on integrity, competence, and service.
As we move forward, I call on all party faithful, stakeholders, supporters, and the good people of Abia North to remain united and focused. The task ahead is enormous, but together we can achieve extraordinary results. Let us consolidate on the gains we have made, deepen our commitment to good governance, and work tirelessly to deliver a brighter and more prosperous future for our people. With unity, determination, and the grace of God, victory awaits us in the general election.
