Abia State governorship hopeful and candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Doris Ogala, has declared her intention to make history as the first woman to govern Abia State, insisting that the state deserves better leadership and a fresh approach to governance.
Speaking on her vision for the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election, Ogala noted that since the creation of Abia State in 1991, no woman has occupied the state’s highest political office, stressing that the time has come for women to take their rightful place in leadership.
According to her, Abia has abundant human and natural resources but has yet to fully harness its potential for the benefit of the people. She argued that a new style of leadership focused on inclusiveness, accountability and people-oriented policies is needed to move the state forward.
The AAC governorship candidate maintained that her aspiration is not merely about breaking a gender barrier but about offering competent and visionary leadership capable of addressing the challenges confronting the state. She said Abians deserve improved infrastructure, quality healthcare, better educational opportunities, job creation and enhanced economic development.
Ogala further emphasized the need for greater participation of women in politics and governance, noting that women possess the capacity, experience and determination required to lead effectively. She urged residents of the state to judge aspirants based on their ideas, competence and commitment to public service rather than gender considerations.
She expressed confidence that Abians are ready to embrace a new political direction and support a candidate who is prepared to prioritize the welfare of the people above personal interests.
As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, Ogala’s declaration is expected to add a new dimension to the race, particularly in conversations surrounding women’s representation and leadership in Abia State.
“If given the opportunity, I will work tirelessly to ensure that Abia achieves its full potential because our people deserve more,” she stated.
