Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, is currently in Anambra State to lend his support to the party’s candidate for the upcoming November governorship election, George Moghalu. Obi’s presence in the state marks the beginning of intensified grassroots mobilization by the Labour Party as it seeks to gain political ground in Anambra.

While addressing party faithful and supporters at a campaign event, Obi made a significant political declaration—he confirmed that he would once again be contesting for the presidency in the 2027 general election. His remarks, delivered in Igbo, drew loud cheers from the crowd, many of whom had anticipated his return to the national political arena.

Obi used the opportunity to dispel speculations surrounding his loyalty to the Labour Party. Contrary to claims that he was planning to abandon the party, the former Anambra State governor reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, stressing that he remains an active and dedicated member.

He also spoke confidently about his chances in the coming presidential race, describing himself as the most competent among all expected contenders. Obi emphasized that his track record and vision for Nigeria set him apart, and urged his supporters to stay focused and united behind his ambition.

In addressing concerns about political rivalry, Obi noted that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to seek elective office. However, he maintained that if asked, his supporters should proudly declare that he is running and that he remains the most qualified to lead the nation.

Obi’s statement not only energized his base in Anambra but also signaled the early start of his 2027 campaign. His appearance at the state-level rally is expected to boost the Labour Party’s chances in the governorship election, while also laying the groundwork for his national campaign in the years ahead.
