The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has announced plans to construct 200 housing units for victims of natural disasters in Kebbi State. This was revealed by the agency’s Director General, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, during the official handover of relief materials to the Kebbi State Government for those affected by recent rainstorms, windstorms, and flooding in several local government areas.

According to Umar, Kebbi State has endured multiple crises in recent years, including bandit attacks and recurring natural disasters such as floods and windstorms. Despite these difficulties, she praised the resilience of the people, describing them as a source of hope and strength.

She noted that the latest series of disasters—particularly the rainstorms and floods that impacted Shanga, Suru, Bunza, Danko-Wasagu, Koko-Bese, and Augie LGAs—had caused widespread displacement, disrupted livelihoods, and heightened the vulnerability of already struggling communities.

“The handover and flag-off of relief items today is a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s continued support under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” she stated. The donated relief materials, which include both food and non-food items, aim to support ongoing recovery efforts in the affected areas.

In his remarks, Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasiru Idris, expressed appreciation to NEMA for its swift response and consistent presence during emergencies. He also thanked the agency for its decision to provide permanent shelter for disaster victims through the construction of 200 new homes.
