The Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has officially called off its three-month-long strike. The union directed all members to resume work starting from midnight on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

This resolution follows the intervention of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who mandated that 10 percent of the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from Area Councils be used to clear the backlog of three months’ unpaid salaries owed to local government workers.

In a statement released after its State Executive Council meeting held at the union’s secretariat in Gwagwalada on Monday, the FCT NULGE leadership said the decision came after thorough deliberations and appeals from the FCT Minister, the Traditional Council, and other concerned stakeholders.

The union also announced plans to collaborate with a Special Committee set up by the Minister to harmonize and address all outstanding salary arrears within two weeks. It reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing engagement with Area Council Chairmen to resolve other lingering welfare issues such as the implementation of the 40% Peculiar Allowance, CONHESS/CONMESS and CONPSS salary structures, pension deductions, and the N35,000 wage award.

Expressing gratitude to Minister Wike, the FCT Traditional Council, stakeholders, and the general public for their support during the strike, NULGE emphasized its continued dedication to fostering industrial peace and ensuring all outstanding entitlements are addressed promptly.
