The Executive Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Area in Benue State, Hon. Joseph Keffi, has expressed heartfelt gratitude over the deployment of more than 500 military personnel and security operatives to critical areas within the local government. The move is part of a broader security intervention aimed at addressing the persistent insecurity affecting parts of Benue State.
According to a statement issued by his Media Aide, Teran Nathaniel, the troops have been stationed in flashpoint communities such as Mbalagh, Agan, and other locations that have suffered frequent attacks by armed herders. These assaults have led to mass displacement, disrupted farming, and severely impacted local livelihoods.
Hon. Keffi extended his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for their leadership and swift action in deploying security forces to the region. He described the development as a major step towards restoring peace and enabling displaced residents to safely return to their communities.
In support of the deployed personnel, Hon. Keffi has provided essential relief items including mattresses, mosquito nets, and food supplies, ensuring the troops are adequately cared for during their mission. He emphasized that such gestures are vital in showing appreciation for the sacrifices made by the security forces.
“These security agents are here to protect our people, and it is only right that we support them in every way possible,” Keffi said.
He also appealed to the residents to remain calm, cooperate fully with the security agencies, and contribute to the collective effort to defeat criminal elements. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring peace, reviving agriculture, and rebuilding affected communities across Makurdi LGA.
