The North Central APC Accord, a political pressure group within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has cautioned the party leadership against appointing a new national chairman from outside the North Central region. The group warned that such a move could worsen internal rifts and erode public trust in the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement jointly signed by its President, Rev. Matthias Ikani, and Secretary General, Ambassador Moses Audu, the group formally endorsed Senator Mohammed Sani Musa for the position. Describing Musa as “the most credible and unifying option” to lead the party, they called on President Bola Tinubu and other APC leaders to prioritize equity and stability by zoning the chairmanship to the North Central region.

“Our support for Senator Musa is based on his proven leadership, calm disposition, and ability to unify. He is a bridge between the party’s legacy and its future,” the statement read. The group highlighted the North Central’s long-standing loyalty to the APC since its formation in 2013, stressing that the region has consistently delivered electoral victories but remains underrepresented in strategic leadership roles.

They further emphasized that Musa, who currently represents Niger East in the Senate and chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, has no history of factionalism or political scandals. According to the group, his legislative and party experience makes him well-suited to lead the APC at a time when the party is in need of healing and direction.

The group issued a strong warning against the imposition of a chairman from outside the region or someone lacking broad grassroots support, saying such a move could fracture the party further and undermine its chances in 2027.

“Our party must rise above narrow interests and embrace fairness, merit, and inclusion. Senator Musa embodies these principles and has the national outlook the APC requires,” the statement added. They urged President Tinubu to uphold internal democracy and support a consultative process that reflects the values he once championed.

In conclusion, the North Central APC Accord appealed to stakeholders across all geopolitical zones to rally behind Musa’s candidacy, insisting that the time has come to restore integrity, inclusiveness, and visionary leadership to the party.
