Hungary’s U19 women’s basketball team on Wednesday ended Nigeria’s campaign at the ongoing FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Czechia with a decisive 77-51 victory.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Junior D’Tigress were outclassed for most of the game, struggling to match Hungary’s intensity and precision.

The match began on an even note with a 9-9 tie in the first quarter. However, the Hungarian side pulled away in the second quarter, dominating 30-12 and widening the gap. Nigeria attempted a comeback in the third quarter but narrowly lost it 16-15. Hungary maintained their momentum in the final quarter, edging it 16-15 to seal the win.

Hungary’s Kinga Jisepovits was the standout performer with 19 points, while Eliza Farbas grabbed 13 rebounds. For Nigeria, Tobenna Nweke led the team with 12 points, and Francis Chukwu contributed 9 rebounds.

Despite the defeat and exit in the round of 16, the Junior D’Tigress made history as the first African team to win a game and reach the knockout stage in the tournament’s history.
