The Kaduna State Police Command has issued a security advisory urging the suspension of a planned political rally by supporters of former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, which was intended to commemorate his birthday.

In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, authorities disclosed they had received credible intelligence indicating that the rally could be infiltrated by criminal elements seeking to incite violence and disrupt public peace.

The police emphasized that all political rallies and public gatherings in the state remain suspended until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially permits the commencement of political activities.

The advisory further noted that several political parties have scheduled their primaries for the same day as the proposed rally and have duly notified law enforcement in accordance with protocol. The Command expressed concern that overlapping events could escalate tensions, potentially leading to clashes and public disorder.

“In light of these concerns, the Command strongly urges the organisers of the proposed Peter Obi rally to suspend any planned gathering or procession,” the statement read. “Those wishing to honour Mr. Obi are advised to do so in a peaceful and non-disruptive manner.”

The police warned that any individual or group defying this directive would face legal consequences. The Command reaffirmed its dedication to upholding law and order and called on the public to cooperate with security agencies in maintaining peace across the state.
