Defection Talks Stall as APC Factions Reject Adeleke’s Move

As speculations mount over Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s alleged plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insider sources reveal that ongoing negotiations have encountered major resistance within the APC ranks.

The rumour gained traction following the recent defection of two PDP senators from Osun to the APC, a move believed to be paving the way for Adeleke. However, sources say key APC stakeholders are opposed to the governor’s entry, citing both procedural and performance-related concerns.

APC chieftain Remi Omowaiye dismissed the defection rumours as mere social media talk, insisting Adeleke must follow due process if he intends to join. “He has to engage the state leadership — particularly the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, who remains the APC leader in Osun,” Omowaiye said.

He further criticized Adeleke’s governance record, citing mass sackings in education and health sectors, and alleged poor infrastructure projects. “We can’t inherit that baggage. He has not performed, and we must consider what we tell the people if he joins us,” Omowaiye stressed.

Despite the pushback, a PDP insider, who requested anonymity, told Vanguard that Adeleke’s camp is still making headway in behind-the-scenes negotiations with top APC figures outside the Osun chapter.

The unfolding political drama adds a new layer of tension to Osun’s already charged political landscape ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
