ExxonMobil has announced the appointment of Jagir Baxi as the new Chairman, Managing Director, and Lead Country Manager of its Nigerian affiliates, including Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Offshore East) Limited. Baxi succeeds Shane Harris, who previously held the position.
With over two decades of experience at ExxonMobil, Baxi brings extensive expertise and a strong leadership track record to his new role, where he will oversee the company’s operations in Nigeria.
“I am honoured to lead our exceptional Nigeria team and build on the work that Shane Harris has done over the past two years,” Baxi said. “My personal commitment is to sustain and grow the strong collaborative relationships we have built with the Nigerian Government, NNPCL, venture partners, contractors, and our host communities.”
Highlighting Nigeria’s deepwater oil and gas potential, Baxi noted the advantages of existing assets such as Erha and Usan, alongside an improving investment climate. He expressed optimism about contributing to Nigeria’s energy goals by leveraging ExxonMobil’s global deepwater expertise.
Prior to his appointment, Baxi served as Executive Director for Production across ExxonMobil’s Nigerian affiliates. Since joining the company in 1999, he has held various senior roles in operations, joint venture management, engineering, and new project development in countries including Australia, Angola, Iraq, Qatar, Papua New Guinea, and the United States.
An Australian national, Baxi holds degrees in Engineering and Science from Monash University, and an MBA from Melbourne Business School.
