A major fire outbreak has ravaged a section of Shril-Balaj Industrial Limited in the Olopomeji area of Ibadan, Oyo State, resulting in the destruction of property valued in the millions of naira. The incident occurred early on Sunday and affected the recycling section of the facility, which contained a large stockpile of disused tyres.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the flames quickly engulfed the recycling area, fueled by the highly flammable materials stored within. The intensity of the fire sent thick plumes of smoke into the air and caused panic among workers and nearby residents.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, stated that the fire was reported to the agency at approximately 7:07 a.m. on Sunday. He revealed that the blaze was triggered by an explosion from a running machine, which subsequently ignited surrounding materials, setting the section ablaze.
Despite the significant damage to the recycling wing, Akinwande noted that swift response by firefighters helped contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the industrial complex. He praised the efforts of the emergency response team, saying their intervention minimized what could have been a more extensive disaster.
