Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, on Tuesday inaugurated the Abia State Nutrition Council, as part of efforts to domesticate and implement the Federal Government’s Nutrition 774 (N-774) Initiative across the state.

The newly formed council is tasked with providing leadership, policy direction, coordination, and oversight for sustainable nutrition interventions in line with national priorities.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Otti described the initiative as timely and critical, given the strong link between proper nutrition, healthcare, and economic productivity. He emphasized that the State has already committed significant budgetary allocations—15% to healthcare and 20% to education—underscoring his administration’s prioritization of human capital development.

“When people are well-fed, they are less likely to fall sick,” the Governor said. “Our investments in roads, sanitation, healthcare, and education are part of an integrated effort to improve living standards. But we must now be more deliberate in tracking nutrition indicators to assess our impact.”

Governor Otti acknowledged the advocacy visit of the National Technical Working Group led by Dr. (Mrs.) Uju Rochas-Anwukah, Senior
