Nigeria’s Super Falcons pulled off a stunning second-half comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 and win the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday night in Rabat.
The Moroccans dominated the first half, racing to a 2-0 lead with goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy, putting the defending champions under immense pressure.
However, the Super Falcons roared back after the break. Esther Okoronkwo converted a penalty to reduce the deficit before setting up Folashade Ijamilusi for the equalizer.
With just minutes remaining, Jennifer Echegini latched onto a free-kick to seal the dramatic win and secure Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
