President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, whose tenure was originally due to end on August 31, 2025. Adeniyi will now remain in office until August 2026.

The extension, announced in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, is intended to enable Adeniyi to consolidate critical reforms and complete key initiatives of the Tinubu administration. These include the ongoing modernisation of the Customs Service, execution of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

“President Tinubu acknowledges Mr. Adeniyi’s consistent leadership and dedication to service,” the statement noted. “The President believes this extension will further empower the Nigeria Customs Service to fulfill its core objectives of trade facilitation, revenue collection, and border security.”

Adeniyi was first appointed in an acting capacity in June 2023, taking over from former Comptroller-General Hameed Ali, and was officially confirmed in October 2023.
