Yobe Govt Approves Over N40bn for Infrastructure, Healthcare, Agriculture, and Job Creation

The Yobe State Government has approved over ₦40 billion for critical capital projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, public services, and economic empowerment across the state.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information, Home Affairs, and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, following a State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni on Wednesday in Damaturu.

According to Bego, ₦1.7 billion has been allocated for the construction of office complexes to house five government agencies, while an additional ₦962.65 million has been earmarked for a new office building for the Yobe Investment Company Ltd.

Significant investments have also been approved for market development across the state, including ₦2.7 billion for the Machina Modern Market, ₦3 billion for the Geidam Modern Market, and ₦3.9 billion to complete the Potiskum Modern Market.

The government will also spend ₦6.1 billion on a Central Motor Park in Damaturu and ₦248 million on the first phase of remodeling the Yobe Line Terminus.

To support agriculture, the council approved ₦3.8 billion for dry season farming inputs, ₦480 million for 490 solar-powered water pumps, ₦1.3 billion for 1,412 additional solar pumps, and ₦5.3 billion for NPK 20:10:10 fertilisers for the 2025 farming season.

In the healthcare sector, ₦1.4 billion was approved for construction projects in selected health facilities and training institutions, along with ₦1.23 billion for medical and laboratory equipment for secondary and tertiary hospitals. The state will also absorb 110 midwives, 54 community health extension workers, and 258 community-based health workers.

Road infrastructure projects include ₦1.25 billion for the 5km Daya-Fadawa road, ₦4.38 billion for the 18.5km Mashio-Ngelzarma road, ₦671 million for the 2.5km Nahuta-Ngojin road, and ₦5.3 billion for the Damaturu-Gambir road.

To promote entrepreneurship and job creation, the council approved ₦442 million for 100 complete barbershop equipment sets and ₦233 million for 50 hairdressing salon equipment sets.

Bego said the massive approvals highlight Governor Buni’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure, improving public services, and uplifting livelihoods across Yobe State.
